RI - Russia Agree on More Substantial Relations

Moscow - Russia's Foreign Minister and Foreign Minister of Indonesia agreed to diplomatic ties to the Indonesia-Russia-60 should be a momentum to improve the potential of bilateral relations to a higher level.

That is one result of a bilateral meeting between Foreign Minister of Indonesia RM Marty M. Natalegawa with Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey V. Lavrov in Moscow, Friday (15/10/2010).

"We agree on more substantial charge in the relations between the two countries," the Minister said RI Natalegawa, as submitted Counsellor Pensosbud M. Aji Surya told AFP after the meeting.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey V. Lavrov expressed their commitment to facilitate the opening of the Consulate General of Indonesia in the territory of Russia, so as to enhance economic and trade interests of Indonesia in Russia.

In a brief meeting the two Foreign Minister also discussed several areas of cooperation that both countries can be further improved.

"The field of counter-terrorism, disaster management and air transportation sector is a field that was agreed by both countries," said Secretary of State.

In particular also explored the possibility of civil aviation cooperation between the two countries by opening a direct route Indonesia-Russia including by the Indonesian airline, Garuda Indonesia.

"Good air links agreement between the two countries can be signed on the sidelines of a series of meetings of the 17th ASEAN Summit and other related summit in Hanoi next week," added the foreign minister.

Foreign Minister underlined that bilateral relations between Indonesia and Russia should be diverse and implemented at all levels. Not only limited to the relationship between governments but also the relationship between businesses and people in both countries.

According to the Minister, the occasion also discussed regional issues, including ASEAN, the new regional architecture and development in the South China Sea.

"Indonesia is committed to the Asia Pacific region continues to create a more stable, peaceful and prosperous based on a dynamic equilibrium (dynamic equilibrium, red) in the constellation of inter-state relations in the region," said Secretary of State.

As known and designed from the outset, through the expansion of East Asia Summit which includes Russia and the United States, the participation of Russia and the U.S. premiere will be performed during keketuaan Indonesia in 2011.

"For a global issue, we have discussed the issue with Russian Foreign Minister of the Korean Peninsula, the Middle East peace process, nuclear Iran, and Kosovo," the foreign minister.
